My name is Vern Valliant of V2 Guide Service. I have been providing fishing guide services in the Deer River area since 1987. Walleye are usually our primary fish to pursue; however, at certain times of the open water season, pan fish can also be a fun option. I will provide you with a safe and fun-filled fishing experience by providing you with a high-quality boat and fishing gear for whatever species of fish we are after. Some of my favorite local lakes include Winnibigoshish, Leech, Bowstring, Round, Big Jesse, and many other smaller bodies of water. The options are endless around this area of northern Minnesota. You provide a valid Minnesota fishing license(s) and whatever food or beverages you want for the day, and I will do the rest. It is recommended you bring the proper rain gear for each trip, as we never know what weather changes may pop up during the day. I look forward to meeting you and providing you with a quality fishing experience.

Via corporate events while I was working and now 4 years into retirement I have been "Fishing with Vern" for more than 16 years. Those years of fishing via corportate events I always made sure that I could have Vern for a guide for at least one day and when I retired I made sure to get his contact information so I could continue fishing with him into my retirement years. Since retirement one of my best friends and I have been going on three day events every late September since 2019.
The main reason I made sure to get his information was Vern makes fishing fun! We sincerely have a great time whether fishing is very good or if we have to work all day to find some fish. His positive attitude and sincere concern to make sure his guests are having a good time is unequaled by any other guide I have fished with. Vern puts his clients expectations first and foremost, and as I stated earlier makes fishing fun. If you are an experienced fisherman or a novice Vern will share tips with you on how to become a better fisherman and catch more fish, and he will definitely "put you onto fish".

The only thing you have to bring is yourself, proper attire and daily food and drink. His fishing skills are something to see and just watching him has made me a better fisherman. Every year he puts us on the fish we’re wanting to catch and it happens. He will absolutely take you to where the fish are. In each trip we’ve never fished the same lake twice.
Fishing with Vern has always been a fun time and we’ve also been able to bring a nice mess of fish home to share with family and friends!!!

I have had the pleasure of fishing with Vern Valliant for over 30 years. And while I also have had the chance to fish with several other northern Minnesota guides, in my view he is the best for several specific reasons. 1. The customer comes first. For some of the others they just want to show you how well they can catch fish. Vern works hard to make sure you catch your share or more. When my wife is with us he is respectful of her presence and needs and she is not left out of the fishing fun. 2. He is a pleasure to be around and be a part of the fishing party. Each day is a new one and Vern realizes it may be your only time in the boat with him. In a couple of instances, I brought an older person along on the trip and Vern made sure his special needs were met. It is amazing to me that with as many days he spends on the water, and with the diversity of clients he must see, I have never seen his attentive and kind manner change. 3. Last and maybe least, he is great at finding fish. If plan A isn't working, he is willing to shift to B or C to make sure you have a good day. Walleyes may be the primary target, but we have also had some terrific perch, and crappie days. The experience has always been fun.
In summary, I think so much of Vern's talent that he is number one on my list for anyone that asks me for a guide recommendation in the Itasca County area.
